A graduate of Colorado School of Mines’ mechanical engineering program, Black has worked in many flavors of engineering all over the country and pulls from them to create rich, diverse worlds. Her love of loud and fast music persists but has been joined by interests in science, space, history, and nature.
RIPPLE, her breakout novel, combines her interests into an adult space opera with a strong female lead plagued by her desire to keep her crew safe at the expense of the armistice of the solar system. Black’s experiences with her chronic illnesses adds depth to the novel with the inclusion of it at any point the main character draws upon the power of her bonded constellation, Orion.
Black currently lives in upstate New York with her husband, Josh, their three dogs, Zoey (great dane), Cogswell (mutt extraordinaire), and Regulus (corgi), and too many plants.
